Dr. Shane Johnson, GM of BayMedica, InMed’s subsidiary, answers these questions:
- What is the minimum GMP standard that consumers should expect?
- What quality controls should CPG companies look for when choosing bioidentical cannabinoids for their products?
- What quality controls are needed to ensure batch-to-batch consistency?
At this time, the cannabinoid industry is fairly unregulated and is inconsistent from state to state or even local jurisdictions and this means nobody is providing consistent oversight of the broader industry. A consumer wants to be assured they are getting a consistent, high quality product every time they use it.
Some of the standards that consumers should be looking for include ensuring the cannabinoids are made to at least food-grade GMP standards. There also needs to be very tight controls to ensure batch-to-batch consistency. Any large consumer packaged goods company requires the batch-to-batch consistency to ensure their products are produced to the same standard every time.
